Due to the extremely high rate of auto accident occurrences, it is highly likely that you will be involved in at least one auto accident in your lifetime. Annually, auto/motorcycle accidents are responsible for over 40,000 deaths. Accidents have enormous impact on the lives of not just the people who are injured by their families as well. Important things to do if you have an auto accident:

1. Call the police immediately, even if no one was injured and file an accident report. Auto/motorcycle accident reports are necessary to determine fault and identify names and addresses of witnesses and parties to crash.
2. Make sure that the report is thorough. The report should include interviews with all parties and witnesses and diagrams of the auto accident scene.
3. Take pictures, this helps in getting as much information as possible of the auto accident. Remember a picture is worth a thousand words.
4. It is advisable for you to get the names and phone number of all auto accident witnesses yourself, as the police officer may not have time to do so. The types of injuries suffered in auto accidents include whiplash, head and brain injury, paralysis, neck and back pain, ruptured disks and injures to the elbows, shoulders, wrists, ankles and knees. This is not a complete list but only the most common types of injuries suffered in auto/motorcycle accidents.
5. If you are in an accident, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Any claims you may have for damages resulting from your injuries depend on the medical records liking the auto accident to your injuries. The more time that lapses between the auto accident and your treatment, the more difficult it is to prove a connection

Auto accident claims are handled in 2 ways:

1. Through each party’s insurance things can be settled prior to filing a lawsuit.
2. In some case, an auto accident may lead to a lawsuit. The types of damages sought after an auto accident can include your cost of medical treatment past and future, loss of property, and loss of wages and past and future pain and suffering.
