Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBRs)

EOBRs have been the subject of proposed rulemaking by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) since 2007. Under the 2007 proposed rule, approximately 500 trucking companies per year – those with a lengthy history of serious Hours of Service (HOS) violations – would be required to install EOBR technology. View the proposed rule-making on EOBRs at the FMCSA website.

Although JJ Keller reported that the final rule was expected in late 2008, no rule was passed during the final days of the Bush Administration, and President Obama has placed a 90-day hold on all such administrative rulings.

MSC’s consultants have experience and training in HOS and Event Data Recorder (EDR)/EOBR technology. From academic research to hands-on driver management, our staff has the skills to assist in the evaluation and implementation of EDR/EOBR data.
