Law Call - 02/11/10 - Love And The Law

Hospice of West Alabama has provided care to terminally ill patients and their families since May of 1982. It is a non-profit organization and is governed by a 25 member Board of Directors.

The agency is the oldest provider of hospice services in the West Alabama area and is a member of the United Way of West Alabama. Hospice of West Alabama is certified to provide services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs and is an approved provider for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. In 1998, HOWA became the first community-based hospice in Alabama to attain accreditation by The Joint Commission.

Hospice of West Alabama is the only agency serving West Alabama with its own freestanding inpatient facility, which has served more than 1,000 patients since it opened on November 1, 2004.

The agency staff of nearly 70 individuals serves hundreds of patients annually in Tuscaloosa, Pickens, Greene, Hale and Bibb counties. On a personal note, one of those fine staff members is Carrie Hayes, wife of Prince Glover’s Josh Hayes.

A conditional rating means that the truck company’s records indicate the truck was out of compliance with one or more safety requirements. An unsatisfactory rating means the truck company’s records indicate evidence of substantial noncompliance with safety requirements. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration updates the entire database of unsafe trucking companies each month.
